skyHow is an open-source wiki-based how-to manual. Not only it has how-to articles, it also has quizzes. 

skyHow was founded on March 29, 2025 by [[User:Xeverything11]]. skyHow has two languages: English and Spanish, the latter being founded on April 21, 2025.

skyHow naming is inspired by '''Sky'''Wiki, the hosting service where it originally hosted skyHow when it was founded, and wiki'''How''', the other wiki-based how-to manual. 

== Why was skyHow founded? ==
skyHow was founded because, on March 25, 2025, wikiHow has switched from Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0, which allowed reuse outside of wikiHow non-commercially, to their proprietary license, which prohibits reuse outside wikiHow, for user content. This was done without community consensus. The community didn't want wikiHow to lose the CC license and so skyHow was founded, with all content (except fair use images) licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 license, which allows reuse of content outside skyHow, even commercially, as long as the website and same license links are given back.

== Migration to WikiOasis ==
skyHow migrated from SkyWiki to WikiOasis on April 29, 2025, because SkyWiki wikis had encountered 4xx and 5xx errors, most notably on April 27 and 28.

skyHow was originally going to be migrated to Miraheze, which is much more stable and has thousands of wikis. But the [https://meta.miraheze.org/wiki/Special:RequestWikiQueue/58611#mw-section-comments wiki request for skyHow on Miraheze was declined], because of "lack of a specific focus or scope" and "the wiki will cover 'any topic' as long as it instructs, which aligns with the 'Encyclopedias of Everything' category that is extremely limited on Miraheze. Wikis of this nature pose a high risk of copyright violations and lack a clear, defined scope." This suggests that the request violated Miraheze's content policy, prohibiting wikis with "anything goes" basis.

So skyHow looked for another wiki farm, and WikiOasis is a good option. Not only it is more stable than SkyWiki, but WikiOasis' content policy is less strict than Miraheze's, so then the wiki requests for [https://meta.wikioasis.org/wiki/Special:RequestWikiQueue/139 English] and [https://meta.wikioasis.org/wiki/Special:RequestWikiQueue/140 Spanish] versions of skyHow were made and both got approved.

== Browser support ==

skyHow aims to support as many browsers they can. Although skyHow occasionally uses bleeding-edge features such as <code>backdrop-filter</code>, skyHow aims to gracefully fallback in older browsers. 

For example, in Chrome 76+, Firefox 103+, Edge 17+ and Safari 9+, skyHow displays the frosted glass effect in the header, but in older browsers, it just displays an opaque background. 

Additionally, skyHow uses prefixes to support older browsers. For example, in Safari 9-17 and Edge 17-18, <code>backdrop-filter</code> needs <code>-webkit-</code> prefix to function.

We support the current and past seven years of versions of:

* Edge (Chromium) (79 and later)
* Firefox (60 and later)
* Safari (11.1 and later)
* Opera (53 and later)

* Android 4.1 Jellybean or later (latest version of Chrome/Firefox available)
** Note that the stock browser app (Android WebView) on Android 4.4 and earlier are unsupported. In Android 5.0 and later Chrome WebView replaced Android WebView and can be updated separately.
* Windows 7 or later (latest version of Chrome/Edge/Opera available)
** Note that variable fonts support in Firefox is not compatible with Windows 7, 8, and 8.1
** Internet Explorer is not supported
* Mac OS X 10.9 Mavericks or later (latest version of Chrome available)
** For Firefox and Safari, macOS 10.13 High Sierra or later with latest version of Firefox or Safari available
